HELPFUL LINKS

NAMI and DBSA are excellent places to find a support group, people who are dealing with some form of a mental condition too. I find weekly meetings informative and a great place to unload my issues in a safe place. There's an Anonymous group for everything and Emotions Anonymous is mine.

If you find yourself suicidal and don't or can't turn to friends and family for support there is the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-800 273-TALK (8255), or at their website or text 741741.

The biggest reason I choose to live off medication is meds aren't fun to be on for me and most of the time they don't solve my problem. They make me tired, I eat too much, I developed mild to major acne, and I lost that manic thinking edge to my creativity. Eventually it became a matter of I just couldn't afford them anymore. For me they are only necessary if I cross the line into full blown mania. Medication is a successful route for a lot of people dealing with a mental condition.

ObamaCare is up and running. It does cover pre-existing conditions like Bipolar and sounds fairly affordable to me. In the US you always have the option of visiting your County Services department. While living in Georgia I received three bills from them totaling $3.00. Yeah, that cheap.

And last but not least on the obtaining medicine at a reasonable price, well, if you're working with a therapist/psychiatrist you can request all you prescriptions are written as a 'medical necessity'. This works in some states, not Georgia I discovered, but where it works it turns any pharmacist who refuses to fill them at little to no cost into a jerk and a law breaker.

Although this blog is meant to speak to fellow mentally health-challenged people, the websites listed above have a lot of information for friends/family members looking to support us with our conditions.
